how to avoid Plagiarism?
I'm writing an assignment requiring me to research on topics I am not familiar of. My school is stressing about plagiarism but unfortunately im not sure if i am plagiarizing or not.
I'm researching on Server Operating Systems. My topics are on Solaris 10 and Open Enterprise Server 2. We are asked to talk about the functions. Now, I have no knowledge about the two.
To describe some features I have to use the terms used in the website. I have to use the definitions as well coz as what i said i am not familiar with the OS' features.
My question is, I'm trying my best to describe the features in my own words. But can't help but use two to more sentences used in the website. I am using APA style of citation, but do I have to be specific what line im using?
how do i avoid plagiarism if in the first place im not familiar with the topic?
you sound like you're doing everything you can to be safe. Just make sure you have a Reference page and use in-text referencing if in doubt.
There are some really good websites where you just copy and paste your assignment into the program and it shows you where there are large chunks copied directly from other websites. If you can find this, so can your teachers!!! I always paste my assignments into these, just to be safe. It's a really good habit to get into and it leaves you with peace of mind.
