Solar Thermal Storage
What is the thermal mass of gravy?

I note that the potatoes get cold while the gravy still burns my tongue. It might have application in solar thermal heat storage.

The specific heat varies depending on the type of gravy.

You've got your conventional brown gravy which has a specific heat of approximately .55 btu/lb/deg F at 150 degs.

White gravy has a specific heat of .98 btu/lb/deg F @ 150 degs.

Red gravy has the greatest variation from .45 to .75 btu/lb/def F at 150 degs

Now Cajun gravy, which is only applied to rice, has a specific heat of 2.25 btu/lb/deg F at any temperature.

All over the world a lot of research is taking place on finding alternative sources of energy, which are affordable and at the same time are also environment-friendly. Hydropower renewable energy has emerged as one of the alternatives for fossil fuel in this effort. The production of hydropower does not produce any carbon dioxide, which makes it a cleaner, as well as much cheaper alternative source of energy when compared to fossil fuels.

The working mechanism of how hydropower renewable energy is produced is rather simple to understand. Water is stored in a reservoir with the help of a dam. The water is then released through a tunnel onto a turbine. The pressure of the rushing water is so great that it propels the turbines, which in turn results in the production of electricity. The electricity that is generated is then distributed through the grid to various locations. There are several cases of hydro-power plants around the world which have been successful. The Hoover Dam facility in the United States of America is a good example for such a facility.

The physical infrastructure needed to build hydropower projects is usually more when compared to the production process of other forms of energy. This is because a lot of land is needed in order to build facilities such as the dam and the storage reservoir. This factor is offset though, by the fact that the electricity that is ultimately produced is free and in the long run it pays off for the initial investments on the facility. These days the trend is also towards setting up hydro-power plants on a smaller scale, which require relatively lower investment.

Hydropower renewable energy is one of the best ways to produce electricity, as well as protect the environment. It is one source of energy which can generate electricity without releasing harmful carbon emissions into the atmosphere. If used judiciously this technology has the potential to change our planet for the better.
