Physics / electrical help?
i have got to set up an expreiment to measure the power absorbed from a solar panel (water pipe system) using only lab equipment and a 150w buld off 230 v mains as the energy source. what i would like to know is how i could measure the power absorbed by water? is it to do with spercific heat capacity of water? i am really stuck
thanks ![]()
i can do that but this is a water heating solar panel ie pipes full of water heated by a energy source. and so i cant attach a ammeter and voltmeter to a pipe???
The formula is:-
Energy in Joules = m c theta
Energy in Joules = watts multiplied by time in seconds
m is the mass of water in kg, c is the specific heat capacity of water in kg/degree C and theta is the temperature rise.
You must therefore measure the cubic capacity of water and convert it into kg, measure the temperature of water when cold and when hot and find the difference between them. For a linear relationship the energy supplied must be constant over a given time. This type of questions however often involve rising exponential. You must not forget that there will be heat losses.
