Do solar trickle chargers (for cars) work?
Do the type of solar trickle chargers that sit on the dash and plug into the cigarette lighter work? I always understood that modern cigarette lighters only allowed one-way flow of power? Not sure.
The lighter outlet allows 2 way power flow, so yes a trickle charger would work- except for the fact that the key has to be in the "ACC" or "ON" position to be connected to the battery. You probably don't want to leave your car keys in the car overnight. Besides, when in "ACC" or "ON" the car's accessories will draw more than the trickle charger can produce. You often see Ni-Cad batteries or jumper cables that plug into the outlet, but they can supply much more power than the trickle charger can. So attach the charger to the battery directly, or install a fused cord from the battery to a separate connector left near the radiator grille to attach the trickle charger.

Perfect gadget for mobile users by Reynante Ordonio on 02/18/2009: Its so light, simple and reliable. The battery is really long lasting. It charges my Panasonic laptop really well up to 80% and yet it only consumes less than 50% of its stored power. It also works great for my other gadgets. I am happy I bought one. I have not tried the mosquito repeller function yet nor charging the unit solely by sunlight.
